How did the first day of my 100 Day Project go? It took me 3 hours to fill a 4 inch square
Decisions, decisions...
My 100 Day Project is Tiny Things. As in, Tiny Things that delight me. On possibly tiny pieces of paper. Small pieces of paper? A size that feels manageable. A size that won’t take over my day. A fun little something. Paint, collage, ink - whatever I feel inspired to use.
I cut out 2-inch squares. So small.
I cut out 4-inch squares. Too big?
This is where people get hung up. Decisions. I have to make things simple. I need the stack of paper, my art supplies, and a fifteen-minute limit.
I decided that I would keep both pieces of paper. And each day whatever inspires me will land on it. I will try to stick to that time limit. But that is going to be a tiny challenge.
On my desk are Wax Flowers. I found a bunch at Trader Joe’s the day before Valentine’s Day. I LOVED them. I brought them home and my husband said, “Did you just buy your own flowers?” To which I replied, “Yes. You’re Welcome.” I think it is a good practice to buy yourself things you love. Like flowers, chocolate, or a brightly colored dish that you put your chocolate in (because it is painted pretty colors). Not only on Valentine’s Day. But often.
There were so many David Lynch quotes flying around the past month. This one from Twin Peaks resonated with me…
“Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.” - Dale Cooper
So today, my tiny thing is wax flowers. They remind me every day we can gift ourselves something that delights us. And we should. And no, you don’t have to spend money. Most of my presents are found rocks, fallen leaves, and giving myself time to do something I love - like go up the street to the botanical garden in the middle of the day.
I realize I don’t like rules. Well, I never have. I want to show up every day and see where this takes me. I would LOVE to collage more. I put one little word on there “Luster”. It is the beginning of a collage. It is a hint of more to come. Let’s see what the next 99 days bring.
Until Next Time ✨,
Kim
Love this Kim. I always buy my own flowers 😂 and as my two year old daughter says, “thank you, your welcome”
Excellent. I think showing up is exactly right. We can prioritize so many other things in life! I showed up today too. I didn't have many plans today (although the last half of the day got very busy in a good way) so I didn't think about a time limit other than the fact that I wanted to at least get a couple sketched fairy faces done. And I did! Several! I'm so excited for this first day!
