Wanderlust: Do you crave adventure?
If you do, I have a really great art challenge for you! Read on...
Time to bust out the art supplies and get out of your comfort zone! I’m hosting a drawing challenge called “Wander Fest” on instagram in April with a group of amazing artists. I absolutely LOVE these challenges and have joined so many I can’t keep count. I love that they push me out of my comfort zone and I create something from their prompts I would not have otherwise. For example, last May I joined a challenge all about spring that paired florals and fauna. I created art with snails, bees, and butterflies. An art director saw my work and I am now featured in a 2025 Calendar by Amber Lotus Publishing called “Praise for the Pollinators” that just launched last week. Some of my favorite work has come from challenges. I promise they will spark some magic in your art practice.
WanderFest is all about travel! I have some serious wanderlust. My family and I just spent Spring Break in London. So it is kismet that the first prompt is called “Festive Blooms” and is inspired by The Glastonbury Music Festival. I first went to London when I was 21. I saw a flyer for a semester abroad and saved for the next year to be able to go. That semester in London changed my life. It broke my mind wide open to the possibilities the world had for me. I found my voice and allowed myself to dream big. While I was there, I had a mix tape I played on replay everyday on my walkman. On it, were songs Pulp played live at the Glastonbury Music Festival. As I drew up these images for the challenge, I was in London again, listening to a mix with Pulp on it.
So the prompts. These prompts are so fun…
They are based on festivals from around the world. But you are welcome to take them anywhere you like! I just love the range of themes in each prompt. I want to draw some cowboy boots and cacti. I’m so excited to see what I create for each of them. But I’m more excited to see what you create! Please join us! Tag all the hosts. We want to share your work.
I will always encourage artists to share their work. No matter where you are. A beginner. Been around for a decade. Everything in between. Just share it. And by the end of the year, see how you have grown. And even find new opportunities with people who are always watching and looking for new talent.
I hope to see you on Instagram!
