When I was 13 years old, my parents took me and my best friend on a road trip to Southern California for spring break. I had never felt the salt air on my skin or smelled the scent of orange blossoms in March.
On our trip we visited Los Angeles. We drove north on highway 1 through the winding hills of Malibu Canyon far after the sun had set. I looked up at the star speckled sky and the moon that hung above us. I had never experienced this kind of knowing before. I was going to live here one day. It was where I belonged. I felt it in my bones.
When I was growing up, we moved around because of my dad’s job. I always felt like a visitor until I moved to Los Angeles in my twenties. My husband and I have considered leaving many times, but never have. Could I? I’m not sure. I love to travel the world, but always look forward to coming home.
It is funny how we are drawn to places and things in life and we don’t quite know why. Only that something is here for us. And we spend a lifetime on the path discovering what that is. And it changes over time. But one thing does not, that we dream. If you say you don’t have one, you probably left it in the dust long ago because it hurt too much to want it. It felt impossible. It was easier to bury it deep inside you than to live with the wanting. But it is never too late to tap into what calls us. Those signs that appear to us. That voice that speaks to only us. That light that shines in us when we follow the path toward it. For it is not the acquiring the dream as much as having one.
So I ask you, what do you dream of?
Some found words…
Remember that book, “The Secret”? When Oprah featured it on her show decades ago, it went a bit viral before viral was a thing. Could we actually manifest what we want? If we truly believed we were capable of achieving something, and felt it in our bones, could we draw it to us? Well, maybe there is a bit more to it.
Mel Robbins just had a podcast episode called The #1 Neuroscientist: After Listening to This, Your Brain Will Not Be the Same. She invites a scientist on who discusses how we absolutely can use our brains to manifest the things we want in our life. It is not a matter of wishing and wanting things, but actually believing we have the power and mindset to achieve all the things we dream of doing and take the steps toward it daily. I have always found talks of manifestation fascinating. I think this one is a good listen.
I am so inspired by this. I love what you said about feeling lit up by your dream and the knowing when you are on the right path. I think being mindful of those connections on a daily basis is the secret. It's so easy to get caught up in the daily grind and push the dreams to the side.
Thanks for sharing that podcast episode, Kim. I've been listening and re-listening to it, as it has a lot of fantastic info that I've been slowly digesting. (I took notes! That's how serious I was into it.)
